The Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (AS) consists of several courtyards and porches, each of which was built during the periods of election of kings and their commanders, due to their devotion and love for this great Imam. Each of these works has architectural styles and decorations specific to its period, which reflect various architectural techniques and designs such as mirror work, stucco work, muqarnas work, wooden decorations and tiling. Mirror work is one of the arts available in the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (AS) that masters of the art have used in decorating the holy places. In the tiling field, various types of mosaic, mosaic and seven-color tiles have also been used in the Holy Shrine. In addition to tiling, many of the porches and even the dome and spire of the Holy Shrine are decorated with golden bricks, which has also been adopted throughout history by kings and lovers of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS). In addition to the special decorations and architecture of the Holy Shrine, many inscriptions are also visible in different parts of the shrine, the dome, and the shrine of the great Imam. These inscriptions contain poems and historical themes written by calligraphers known as the Safavid period. In addition, there are various types of karimahs in the Holy Shrine, including: Quranic books taken from verses of the Quran, prayer books taken from important and selected supplications of the holy Imams, and hadith books containing the hadiths of the twelve Imams and the Ahl al-Bayt. In summary, by examining the structure of all parts of the shrine, one can understand the evolution and formation of Iranian architectural design throughout history, among which calligraphy and book writing have been of great interest. Addressing this topic is undoubtedly a reminder and miracle of the words of the Quran and the hadiths of the holy Imams in people’s lives. By examining the books of the Holy Shrine, I can say that Quranic books are the most important and have been used the most in historical periods.
